Carl-August Seibel, the father of Joseph, founded the first factory in 1897, in Hauenstein, Germany. A new facility, built in 1907, still produces Josef Seibel shoes today. Josef Seibel shoes is now run by the great-grandson of the founder, with manufacturing facilities in Germany, Hungary and Romania. Josef Seibel produces five million pairs of shoes each year, for customers in Canada and worldwide. The Josef Seibel Group also owns the Romika brand, another well-known comfort footwear maker based in the Czech Republic.
